Paul Patterson Biography

Picture
Based in Boynton Beach, Florida, Paul is not a new-comer to music. He has been studying and playing music from his early childhood, and grown. Beginning piano lessons at the age of 4, adding guitar and bass later in life- as well as studying vocal arrangements- he draws his musical inspiration from pure knowledge and tradition coupled with heart-felt rhythm, unadulterated freedom and incredible energy.

Paul credits most of his musical beginnings to his Church ministry background. From an early age, he was involved with travelling from Church to Church with his grandfather- Evangelist Austin Calder, through the summers. He began singing in children's choir at the age of 6, and playing music regularly in Sunday services at the age of 12. By the age of 15 he was leading worship services and played on a weekly local television show and at evangelistic meetings. Between the ages of 18 and 26 he traveled with several different music ensembles in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, most of New England, The Canadian Maritime Provinces and Saskatchewan.

Paul has a B.A Music, with a Worship Leadership Major, from Briercrest College and Seminary. In his final year of High School, Paul took just 6 months to begin and complete his Grade 8 Theory and Music Diploma through the Royal Canadian Conservatory of Music, enabling him to teach piano, professionally. Paul can play by ear, as well as note, chord, and with the Nashville Number System. Through the years, he has played in many differing settings, with numerous different styles and incredibly talented players. He credits these same opportunities with shaping him in the knowledge and experience he has now.

Through the years, Paul has had the opportunity to play and perform with many talented individuals. Gaither Homecoming Artists Lynda Randle and Kevin Pauls, Canadian award-winning recording artist Chelsea Nisbett, The Suwannee River Boys, and Evangelist Wendell Calder, just to name a few. He has also been part of several recording projects as a studio musician.
